HIS STORY
Mitch McPherson is a professional wildlife photographer, outdoorsman, and adventure guide whose life revolves around pursuing the wild places and creatures that inhabit them. Known for his striking close-up wildlife imagery and immersive field experience, Mitch has built a career traveling across North America in search of powerful encounters with animals and the landscapes they call home.
Photography for Mitch is far more than a profession. It is a lifestyle built around curiosity, patience, and a deep respect for the natural world. In 2020, he made the decision to fully commit to life as a traveling wildlife photographer, building out a custom expedition van that now serves as both home and basecamp for his adventures. Since then, he has logged more than 100,000 miles across the continent, chasing light, weather, and wildlife in some of the most spectacular landscapes in North America.
Through his photography, Mitch strives to capture wildlife in a way that feels intimate, authentic, and alive. His images are known for their vibrant detail and powerful eye-to-eye perspectives that place the viewer directly into the moment with the animal. Whether photographing massive Alaskan brown bears, elusive predators of the northern forests, or the everyday beauty of wildlife found across the American West, his goal is always the same: to create images that spark wonder and deepen appreciation for the wild.
Mitch is also deeply passionate about helping others experience the magic of wildlife photography firsthand. In addition to creating his own images, he leads wildlife photography adventures and workshops where participants learn not only the technical side of photography, but also the art of reading landscapes, understanding animal behavior, and positioning themselves for unforgettable encounters. His guiding philosophy centers on ethical wildlife photography and responsible wildlife viewing, emphasizing patience, respect, and the importance of protecting the places and animals that make these experiences possible.
His travels have taken him from the mountains of the American West to the wild coasts of Alaska and countless landscapes in between. Each destination offers new challenges, new wildlife, and new stories waiting to unfold through the lens. Along the way, Mitch has built a growing community of outdoor enthusiasts and photographers who follow his work and share his passion for exploring wild places. Today, his photography and storytelling reach a large audience online, where he continues to inspire people to venture outside, slow down, and connect with the natural world.
At the heart of Mitch’s work is a belief that meaningful wildlife photography begins long before the shutter clicks. It starts with time spent in nature, learning the rhythms of the land, watching how animals move through their environment, and waiting for those rare moments when everything comes together. For Mitch, those moments are what make wildlife photography so powerful.
When he’s not leading photography trips or chasing wildlife across the continent, you’ll likely find him exploring remote landscapes, glassing distant hillsides for movement, or quietly waiting with a camera in hand for the next wild story to unfold.
